New friends made around the campfire!

Forest School is a unique method of outdoor education that allows children to develop confidence, independence, self-esteem and awareness and knowledge of the natural environment. They acquire this through hands on experiences in outdoor and woodland environments. There is much evidence to demonstrate that learning that takes place outdoors and whilst being active is much more powerful and memorable, as all the senses are involved. During Forest School sessions children work in a nurturing environment where they are encouraged to try new things and work outside of their comfort zone. Aspirational language is always used and all tasks are achievable; enabling children to build self- esteem and develop confidence to push themselves.

The Forest School concept originates in Denmark where it was found that children who attended Forest School from a young age arrived at school with strong social and communication skills, having the ability to work in groups effectively. They generally had high self-esteem and a confidence in their own abilities. This foundation helped them to raise their academic achievements.
